Q. Are your Vocabulary Builder™ and Action Words!™ videos appropriate for children with speech and language delays?

A. Yes, the videos are appropriate for children with a variety of speech and language delays. Many children with speech delays have benefited from the videos including children who were premature, children with diminished hearing, children with down syndrome, and children with PDD or Autism - In fact, there are a large number of Speech therapists who recommend the DVDs to their client’s families.

Q. I’m confused about the age ranges on your packaging… can you help me select a product for my child?

A. The first thing to keep in mind when selecting videos is your child’s level of development with respect to language rather than chronological age. Our videos were not specifically created for children with speech delays – It has simply been a happy circumstance that the videos have been so beneficial for these kids. For this reason the age ranges on the packages do not necessarily apply children with speech or language delays. Often these children will find titles appropriate at much older ages.

Q. Is there a maximum age limit for your videos?

A. There isn’t a firm age limit for kids with speech delays, but the younger your child starts the better. Most of the children who do really well with the videos are 5 or younger. (And again – as with all developmental interventions – the younger the better!)

Q. Do you offer any sort of Guarantee?

A. We at Baby BumbleBee want to make it possible for parents of children with significant language delays to try the videos with little risk, so we offer a money-back guarantee* for the purchase of 5 and 10 volume video and DVD sets. We hope this makes the decision to try our videos a little easier for parents. *You can click here to read the terms of our Guarantee.

Q. Which DVD/video(s) should I start with?

A. This Depends on how advanced your child’s language development is. For most children who are non-verbal, or have very limited vocabularies (30 or fewer words), you will want to begin with the vocabulary BuilderTM Series. You can preview words and concepts featured on each video by clicking on it - an expanded description will pop up. Click on this link to preview videos and DVDs by words and concepts featured.

Q. How soon will I receive the videos or DVDs I’ve ordered?

A. We ship same day for all orders placed before 12:00pm EST. Typically, ground packages take from 1 to 7 days from the date of shipment to reach you – depending on your location. The website allows you to select expedited shipment for an additional shipping charge that is calculated based on the weight of your package.

Q. My child is already in speech therapy, will these videos still help?

A. YES. The videos are absolutely compatible with most speech therapy programs. Unfortunately – the number of hours of speech therapy provided for by insurers and state and school district funded programs is often inadequate for the needs of many speech delayed children. Our videos and DVDs provide additional speech enrichment time that parents can provide at home.

Q. What teaching method is used in the videos?

A. The Vocabulary BuilderTM and Action Words!TM Videos use paired associative learning – a scientifically well established teaching method. Our videos have a few advantage over simple printed flashcards for children with Autism and PDD. These are as follows:

The videos present a variety of examples of the word being taught. For example – the video will present many cars rather than just one. This helps kids with autism and PDD generalize the word meaning more quickly.

The videos are LOW-STIMULUS. High stimulus videos and games can shorten your child’s attention span. Our videos are intentionally slow paced. While you might find them boring, they are paced just right for young children and children with speech delays.

Q. What other materials can you suggest for my child?

A. Check out the links to Teaching Tools on our home page. We have many free teaching tools available on our web-site, including printable flashcards to pair with the videos.
